I hope you enjoy these links.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Give Away<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ruthless Leather is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruthlessthings.com\/blog\/2012\/01\/giving-away-giving-back-leather-dog-collars\/\">giving away<\/a> a stunning, hand made leather dog collar to a rescue dog in Australia! \u00a0Follow the link for instructions for nominating a rescue dog.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dog Rescue and Welfare<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>YesBiscuit! put out an Action Alert regarding making it mandatory for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/yesbiscuit.wordpress.com\/2012\/01\/18\/action-alert-shelters-must-check-for-microchips-contact-owners-of-lost-pets\/\">shelters to check for microchips and contact owners<\/a>. \u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0appalling\u00a0that, currently, there is not an obligation for shelters to work to reunite pets to their owners.<\/p>\n<p>Love and a Six Foot Leash wrote a lovely\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/loveandaleash.com\/2012\/01\/14\/a-bit-of-fostering-inspiration-for-our-new-friends\/\">summary post with lots of great links about fostering<\/a>, with the intent to inspire fostering. \u00a0Such a great list of resources that I had to share.<\/p>\n<p>A detailed and well researched article about\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.2ndchance.info\/spayneuter.htm\">the advantages and disadvantages of neutering<\/a>. \u00a0A nicely balanced article considering the pro-neuter society and climate, it&#8217;s very interesting to read the lesser-stated cons of desexing.<\/p>\n<p>Lindsay Stordahl has written a great post talking about people\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thatmutt.com\/2012\/01\/11\/giving-up-a-dog\/\">giving up a dog<\/a>, and how it&#8217;s not always as bad as we make it out to be! \u00a0A great post that encourages us to be more understanding of those who\u00a0<em>don&#8217;t<\/em>\u00a0think that dogs are for life, and why that&#8217;s okay.<\/p>\n<p>A thoughtful and powerful post on For the Pit Bulls. \u00a0We hear stories frequently about pets who are not dying from gas chamber (normally as people queue to adopt these &#8216;miracle&#8217; pets) &#8211; and how lethal injection should be implemented as a more humane solution. \u00a0Um, perhaps we should just not kill pets? \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/for-the-pits.blogspot.com\/2012\/01\/cat-gassed-twice-does-not-die-shelter.html\">A great post challenging gas chambers AND any other form of killing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The No Dog About It blog looked at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nodogaboutit.wordpress.com\/2012\/01\/08\/dog-cloning-surrogate-mom-to-dog-meat\/\">welfare issues surrounding surrogate dog mothers in dog cloning<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; most notably, many surrogate mothers will go onto to become dog meat.<\/p>\n<p>Found a cool blog and rescue group,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.turtlegardens.org\/blog\/\">Turtle Gardens Animal Rescue blog<\/a>, located in Topley, British Columbia, Canada.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/peggyfrezon.blogspot.com\/2012\/01\/is-for-adoption-yay.html\">Adoption (yay!)<\/a> should be a sexy option for people looking for a new dog! \u00a0Peggy Frezon talks about her experiences, and how she has become an adoptive pet-parent, and we should make others consider adoption (yay!) too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dog Science<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ScienceDaily came out with another great reader on dog science, with &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2012\/01\/120105131639.htm#.Tx3EqyoCg9Y.twitter\">Dogs read our intent<\/a>&#8220;, considering science behind dogs &#8216;reading our minds&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dpca.org\/albino\/albino_about.htm\">What is an Albino Dobermann?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a bit out there (like lots of his stuff), but Lee Charles Kelley made a post about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/blog\/my-puppy-my-self\/201012\/unified-dog-theory-vii-women-oxytocin-and-the-domestication-dogs\">how oxytocin in women may have had a role in the domestication of dogs<\/a>. \u00a0Some of the sciencey bits are interesting, at least.<\/p>\n<p>Today I Found Out posted about how <a href=\"http:\/\/www.todayifoundout.com\/index.php\/2012\/01\/both-cats-and-dogs-can-see-color\/\">both cats and dogs see in colour<\/a>. \u00a0It&#8217;s a pretty cool article, talking about lots of aspects of dog sight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dog Training<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A fantastic post and video from Fanny Gott on using life rewards in dog trianing. \u00a0In this case, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fannygott.com\/epic-learning-a-big-lesson\">Epic was working for the reward of a whiff of a bitch in season<\/a>! \u00a0Awesome and fascinating, check out the video. \u00a0Another nail in the coffin for those who insist that in heat bitches are too distracting to be at dog sports.<\/p>\n<p>I recently discovered the Springforth dog blog and I couldn&#8217;t help myself but tweet a bunch of content! \u00a0They&#8217;ve got great articles on there. \u00a0The ones that I tweeted this week are &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/springforthdog.com\/dogblog\/what-makes-a-great-training-treat\">What makes a great training treat?<\/a>&#8220;, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/springforthdog.com\/dogblog\/the-power-of-peanut-butter\">The Power of Peanut Butter<\/a>&#8220;, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/springforthdog.com\/dogblog\/creative-puppy-socialization\">Creative Puppy Socialization<\/a>&#8220;, and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/springforthdog.com\/dogblog\/myth-busting-dogs-that-arent-food-motivated\">Myth Busting: Dogs that aren&#8217;t food orientated<\/a>&#8220;. Phew!<\/p>\n<p>A light hearted post by Dog Zombie about <a href=\"http:\/\/dogzombie.blogspot.com\/2012\/01\/classical-conditioning-do-try-this-at.html\">classical conditioning<\/a>, nicely describing its benefits.<\/p>\n<p>An inspiring post by Susan Garrett asking us to <a href=\"http:\/\/susangarrettdogagility.com\/2012\/01\/power-for-today\/\">compare our experiences with those of dogs<\/a> in dog training. \u00a0It&#8217;s a motivating post, and if you&#8217;ve hit a plateau in your training, have a read.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dogs and Kids<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Doggone Safe <a href=\"http:\/\/doggonesafe.blogspot.com\/2012\/01\/january-is-train-your-dog-month-free.html\">posted<\/a> for National Train Your Dog Month some free seminars. Great seminars! \u00a0They also made a post titled, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/doggonesafe.blogspot.com\/2012\/01\/my-dog-growled-at-my-child-now-what.html\">My dog growled at my child &#8211; now what?<\/a>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Dogs and Storks blog came up with a thought provoking post asking parents, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/dogsandstorks.blogspot.com\/2012\/01\/are-you-guilty-of-passive-supervision.html?spref=tw\">Are you guilty of passive supervision?<\/a>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dog Health<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Though a limited tool at the moment in terms of breed, PetSci have created <a href=\"http:\/\/petsci.co.uk\/health-care\/petsci-canine-bmi-calculator\/\">a pet BMI calculator<\/a>. \u00a0An interesting idea, that seemed to be in its infancy at the moment.<\/p>\n<p>Reactive Champion made a post titled &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/reactivechampion.blogspot.com\/2012\/01\/why-people-are-resistant-to-behavioral.html?spref=tw\">Why people are resistant to behavioural meds&#8230; And why they shouldn&#8217;t be.<\/a>&#8221; \u00a0A worthwhile read for anyone with a dog with behavioural problems, considering behavioural medication.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Dobia&#8217;s blog had an article on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.peterdobias.com\/community\/2011\/12\/puppy-care-naturally\/\">natural puppy care naturally<\/a>, with interesting information for both breeders and puppy buyers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other Bits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I tweeted a couple of posts from Alfie&#8217;s Blog on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.alfiesblog.com\/friday-foto-fun-dog-photo-tips\/friday-foto-fun-dog-involved-shoot\/\">how to help your dog love the camera<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.alfiesblog.com\/friday-foto-fun-dog-photo-tips\/alfies-friday-foto-fun-dog-photos\/\">how not to take dog photos<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s Blog the Change time again!
