This is where I summarise my weekly tweets (from <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/macdogald\">my Twitter account<\/a>) and choose my favourite as the Tweet of the Week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tweet of the Week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stanley Coren (best known as the author of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/The-Intelligence-Dogs-Thoughts-Companions\/dp\/0553374524\">The Intelligence of Dogs<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/How-Dogs-Think-World-Looks\/dp\/0743222334\/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1340149117&amp;sr=1-3&amp;keywords=stanley+coren\">How Dogs Think<\/a><\/em> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/s\/ref=sr_tc_2_0?rh=i%3Astripbooks%2Ck%3AStanley+Coren&amp;keywords=Stanley+Coren&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1340149117&amp;sr=1-2-ent&amp;field-contributor_id=B000APS1B0\">a range of other books<\/a>) runs a fascinating blog, often delving into dog science, called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/blog\/canine-corner\">The Canine Corner<\/a>. \u00a0Though I often read this blog with interest, it is his recent post, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/blog\/canine-corner\/201205\/can-dogs-predict-earthquakes\">Can Dogs Predict Earthquakes?<\/a>&#8220;, that really fascinated me. \u00a0 What was so interesting is that Coren was actually researching another area through a survey and noted\u00a0anomalies\u00a0in dog behaviour surrounding an earthquake event. \u00a0Coren goes into a lot of detail, but basically concludes that dogs can hear high pitched sounds with an earthquake, and that&#8217;s why some dogs react. My basic summary doesn&#8217;t do his research justice &#8211; please have a read, and I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;ll enjoy as much as me!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Animal Rescue and Sheltering<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Poodle and Dog Blog poses an interesting question in their post, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/thepoodleanddogblog.typepad.com\/the_poodle_and_dog_blog\/2012\/05\/does-a-dog-really-need-to-have-a-home-the-stories-of-two-remarkable-dogs.html \">Do all dogs really need a home? The stroies of two remarkable dogs<\/a>&#8220;. A really interesting question and thought-provoking stories.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/us1.campaign-archive1.com\/?u=180da3fac37065a9753be0008&amp;id=a6cac5beef\">The one good thing about tax time?<\/a> Tax deductable donations!<\/p>\n<p>A Nathan Winograd classic: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nathanwinograd.com\/?p=1390\">Debunking pet overpopulation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>YesBiscuit! explains: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/yesbiscuit.wordpress.com\/2012\/05\/17\/what-no-kill-means-to-me\/\">What &#8220;no kill&#8221; means to me<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve had a busy week tweeting a number of SavingPets articles. These are: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.savingpets.com.au\/2010\/06\/overpopulation-disguises-the-true-cause-of-shelter-killing\/\">Overpopulation disguises the true cause of shelter killing<\/a>&#8220;, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.savingpets.com.au\/2010\/08\/why-australian-no-kill-advocates-need-to-watch-their-language\/\">Why Australian No Kill advocates need to watch their language<\/a>&#8220;, and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.savingpets.com.au\/2012\/05\/protecting-good-dogs-from-bad-laws\/\">Protecting good dogs from bad laws<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>And I had a couple from Wisconsin Watchdog too: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/wisconsinwatchdog.blogspot.com.au\/2012\/05\/i-consider-myself-very-lucky-person.html \">Compassion please! For pets and people<\/a>&#8221; (about\u00a0rhetoric\u00a0surrounding people who struggle to reclaim their animals from holding facilities) and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/wisconsinwatchdog.blogspot.com.au\/2012\/05\/good-animal-shelters-operatelike-good.html\">Virtual re-homing &#8211; outside of the box and the shelter<\/a>&#8221; (on encouraging people wanting to rehome their pets to &#8216;do it themselves&#8217; instead of taking a pet to a shelter).<\/p>\n<p>A tear jerker video:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/8301-504803_162-57363207-10391709\/puppy-rescue-in-afghanistan-by-u.s-troops\/?tag=socsh\"> Puppy rescue in Afghanistan by U.S. troops<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Not strictly dog, but quite relevant to rescue: a video called &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vpEcxIgMhyQ\">Tough Love<\/a>&#8221; on socializing feral kittens so they avoid euthanasia and find new homes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/springforthdog.com\/dogblog\/tessies-not-so-excellent-adventure\">Tessie&#8217;s Not-So-Excellent Adventure<\/a> &#8211; on a lost dog, with messages of prevention.<\/p>\n<p>From Love and a Leash, talking about Stevie Wonder: Their foster that seemed to have found a new home&#8230; &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/loveandaleash.com\/2012\/05\/09\/the-saga-of-stevie-wonder-part-2\/\">The saga of Stevie Wonder Part 2<\/a>&#8220;.
