Considering that when Lucky (a past foster) came into care, she was also surrendered as an escape artist, and yet never tried to escape once, I knew that people lie when surrendering pets to rescue.

However, I soon found that Bella’s past owner wasn’t lying.

Yes, Bella jumps fences. Bella also can escape from a wire crate and can open doors. She has her own plans and doesn’t like to be confined. That being said, being confined when you’re around is quite okay by her – she’ll stay in the yard, stay in a crate, and stay locked in a room while you’re nearby. Once she realises you’re gone, however, she seeks her own adventures. She is looking for a home with secure fences, someone home most of the time, and is best to be locked inside when left alone to reduce her opportunities to fence jump in her new home. Her adoption is subject to a yard check and commitment to keeping Bella contained.

Aside from this one vice, Bella’s a pretty cool dog. She is a 2 year old kelpie crossbreed. Kelpies are generally are known for being quite active, but Bella’s mellow sweetie. She likes sleeping on the couch and giving some pretty lush cuddles. She is soft natured, very loving, and generally wants to please.

She is quiet and well behaved in the house. She is housetrained. Her only problem inside is counter surfing food left unattended!

She is well behaved in the car. She would make an excellent caravan companion.

Though she likes children, I can see her being overwhelmed with young, busy, noisy children, so older, more sensible children are probably best.

Bella is good with other dogs. She enjoys their company and likes to play. She doesn’t like rude dogs that don’t properly introduce themselves before eliciting play.

She is quite interested in cats in a herding/play way. She would probably be okay with a bossy, dog-savvy cat. (She was surrendered as ‘good with cats’, but I wouldn’t go that far!)

Bella knows ‘sit’, ‘drop’, and comes to her name. She does gently jump up, and pulls on lead, so is not suitable in a home with anyone unstable on their feet (e.g. the elderly or very young children). She is learning how to play fetch. She will be easy to train, as she likes food and likes to please.

Bella is desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated, and registered with council.

Bella is located in South Australia (Adelaide metro), and can be rehomed interstate.

For more information, including contact details, please see Bella’s PetRescue profile. So far, she has been here for about 6 weeks – far longer than most of our rescues! We very much hope she finds a home soon.

Our current rescue dog, Bella, is looking for a home.
