I also a select a favourite to crown the &#8216;Tweet of the Week&#8217;. It&#8217;s a big hunk of links, so get a coffee and enjoy some reading.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tweet of the Week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When I attended a seminar series with <a href=\"http:\/\/leemakennels.com\/blog\/dog-behaviour\/paul-mcgreevy-seminars\/\">Paul McGreevy<\/a>, he mentioned how studies of guide dogs have shown that the most successful puppies have characteristics that you wouldn&#8217;t typically associated with success. \u00a0That is, the &#8216;perfect guide dog puppy&#8217; is right pawed (&#8216;handed&#8217;), left eyed, and has hair that whirls in an anti-clockwise direction. \u00a0This is seriously the case, as crazy as it sounds, and ABC Catalyst looks into this in more detail in the story &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/catalyst\/stories\/3465535.htm\">Left Paw Right Paw<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dog Science<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I actually really enjoyed completing this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/s\/breedidentity\">Dog Breed Identification Survey<\/a>. It doesn&#8217;t take very long at all to complete, and help contribute towards dog science.<\/p>\n<p>The Horowitz Dog Cognition Lab is conducting a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doghumanplay.com\">dog-human play study<\/a>. \u00a0And lots are blogging about it: Scientific American asked, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.scientificamerican.com\/guest-blog\/2012\/12\/12\/how-do-you-play-with-your-dog\/?WT.mc_id=SA_sharetool_Twitter\">How do you play with your dog?<\/a>&#8221; and Do You Believe in Dog? encouraged: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/doyoubelieveindog.blogspot.com.au\/2012\/12\/play-with-your-dog-for-science.html?spref=tw\">Play with your dog: for science<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>I just discovered the blog Companion Animal Psychology, and I&#8217;m having great fun reading their stuff! This week I tweeted: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.companionanimalpsychology.com\/2012\/06\/will-dog-comfort-crying-stranger.html?spref=tw\">Will a dog comfort a crying stranger?<\/a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.companionanimalpsychology.com\/2012\/10\/social-referencing-in-dogs.html?spref=tw\">social referencing in dogs<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/apaconvention.com\/2012\/08\/02\/this-just-in-your-dog-doesnt-really-love-you\/\">This just in: Your dog doesn&#8217;t really love you<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>From Scientific American: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.scientificamerican.com\/thoughtful-animal\/2011\/10\/31\/real-life-werewolves-dog-bites-and-full-moons\/?WT.mc_id=SA_sharetool_Twitter\">Real life werewovles? Dog bites and full moons<\/a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.scientificamerican.com\/thoughtful-animal\/2012\/05\/31\/do-dogs-feel-guilty\/?WT.mc_id=SA_sharetool_Twitter\">Do dogs feel guilty?<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>And from Science Daily, an oldie but a goodie, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2009\/02\/090217141540.htm#.UMzQZD2aRm8.twitter\">If you&#8217;re aggressive, your dog will be too, says veterinary study<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Purchasing or Seeking a Pet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I really loved the RSPCA UK&#8217;s little flash description on &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/getpuppysmart.com\">Get Puppy Smart<\/a>&#8220;. It&#8217;s a little interactive game that&#8217;s great for anyone considering adding a pet to their family.<\/p>\n<p>A guest post I made some time ago on All You Need is Lists: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/allyouneedislists.com\/lifestyle\/pets\/5-reasons-not-to-buy-a-puppy-from-a-pet-shop\/\">5 Reasons NOT to Buy a Puppy for a Pet Shop<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>This post was very close to the Tweet of the Week. It criticises the adoption process that many rescues ask for adopters to complete, and I think it&#8217;s important for rescue groups to acknowledge these conceptions and work at bettering their customer service. \u00a0The post is called: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/articles\/life\/heavy_petting\/2012\/01\/animal_rescue_want_to_adopt_a_dog_or_cat_prepare_for_an_inquisition_.html?utm_source=tw&amp;utm_medium=sm&amp;utm_campaign=button_toolbar\">No Pet for You &#8211; Want to adopt a dog or cat? Prepare for an inquisition at the animal rescue<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>But, on the other hand, a more balanced article talking about &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/article\/those-darn-dog-rescues-with-all-of-their-rules-and-questions-what-gives\">those darn dog rescues with all their rules and questions<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>And SavingPets addresses, for Christmas, the concept of &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.savingpets.com.au\/2010\/12\/pets-as-gifts-the-same-old-xmas-rot\/\">pets as gifts<\/a>&#8221; (and calls it &#8220;the same old xmas rot&#8221;!).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rescue and Sheltering<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I love this!
